Big crowds on the boards for holiday weekend

OCEAN CITY, N.J. - May 27, 2011

The boardwalk foot traffic is picking up at the Jersey Shore.

The families, the fun, and the food, tens of thousands of people are expected to pack the shore to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend.

Holly Rowell from Haddonfield, N.J. came down early Friday, and she wasn't the only one trying to beat the crowds.

The Pelagatti family couldn't wait and made their trip from West Grove Thursday night.

"It can get pretty crazy on the weekends, but this is nice, this is perfect right now," said Jackie Pelagatti.

The music on the beach started early in Atlantic City, and it was a nice day to build a sandcastle, but the water was a little cold for shore goers.

"Oh my gosh, it's so cold," said Stephanie Gruber. "It's been so fun, it was a breeze to get down here. There was a ton of traffic to get to all the other shore towns, but here it was fine, we're here to see a concert."

From the rides to the shopping, boardwalk business in Ocean City are expecting a lot of dough to come rolling in for the holiday weekend.

And the weather will help. The beach winds have had some people bundling up, but overall, it has been a beautiful start to the weekend.

"I think it's going to be great, we were on the beach all day, it was beautiful and we're hoping for more of the best," said Barry Pelagatti.
