Noisy box at Okla. airport causes evacuations

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - June 3, 2011

Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said Friday that the wiring and cellphone parts were what alerted security officials.

The taped-up cardboard box arrived on an incoming flight from Houston and was discovered at a baggage claim carousel around 9:15 a.m.

Airport officials called police after hearing sounds coming from the box and evacuated part of the airport.

A bomb squad determined the package was harmless, but not before more than 30 flights were cancelled or delayed and nearly 2,500 passengers were affected.

The FBI says the box's owner missed his flight and was apologetic. No charges are expected.
