Pamper your Dad on Father's Day

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - June 16, 2011

You know he already has ties, and if he golf's, he'd probably just as soon choose his gear himself. But does he take the time to provide himself with little luxuries?

Most women appreciate a day at the spa, but a lot of men who might like some pampering aren't sure that's the place for them.

A comfortable alternative is an upscale barber shop, where men get the traditional hair services they expect but may also choose add-ons like a manicure or massage.

We found such at Michael Alan's Fine Barbers in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The shop offers both classic and contemporary haircuts, as well as other hair services like coloring.

Health laws no longer allow the one-blade-for-all straight razor, but professional razors with disposable blades provide the same shave with 21st-century safety.

The shop also offers what's called a "sports manicure", nail care geared just for men. And there are mini-massages, ten to fifteen minutes in a chair designed to loosen up muscles and relieve tension.

The shop's décor includes oversized leather chairs and wall hangings men relate to, like a collection of patches from police who are patrons.

An independent survey recently rated Michael Alan's one of the ten best shops in America.

Despite the upscale atmosphere, prices are competitive with neighborhood shops that don't have the same range of services.

There is also a line of name-brand personal care products you may buy to use at home.

For Father's Day, as at other holidays, the shop sells quite a few gift certificates, so Dad may choose the products and services he prefers.

The shop accepts only male clients.
