Tag sales up along Jersey Shore

In Ocean City, they are also seeing increases in parking and rentals as well.

What's causing such increases? 30 million people live in a gas tanks drive, a good location in a questionable economy with high fuel costs.

"Europe and the Carolinas are out right now because of the gas prices and the airline tickets. A resort like Ocean City that's family oriented is in," said Michele Gillian of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce.

For Mike Scheiby and his family, this means taking this chance to go on their first vacation since the economy went down.

"We've put our vacations off for the past few years and just rolled it all into this one," said Scheiby.

Scheiby and his family are keeping a tight hold of their wallets, looking for deep discounts.

"We're shopping around for the best prices and trying to get our money's worth," said relative Jennifer Hopkiss.

Such bargain hunting for vacationers is no surprise for Ocean City Parasail's Jamie Richard.

"We have offered larger discounts, not increasing our ticket prices. We are offering more coupons, giving them something to do when they come here other than just coming to the beach," said Richard.

As for the state of the Jersey Shore economy, things are on track to be at least a solid season as long as the weather holds.
