It happened around 4:20 a.m. on Route 40 near the Governor's Square Shopping Center along the 1100 block of Pulaski Highway.
Police arrived to find a man they believe to be in his 20s laying in roadway.
He was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. No word on his identity.
The driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash, remained at the scene.
One lane of Route 40 eastbound remains open as an investigation continues.
