Nicetown-Tioga shooting victim taken off life support

NICETOWN-TIOGA - January 10, 2012

The victim's mother, Teria Reid, tells Action News she had to make the most difficult decision any parent should ever have to make, to take her child off life support.

Reid described her son as being full of life, energetic and fond of dancing.

He attended Mastery Charter School and would have turned 18 in the beginning of March.

Reid added that she faces the unenviable task of finding the financial resources to bury DeVante.

The family hopes to establish a fund to aid in that quest.

The shooting happened Tuesday shortly after 9:30 p.m. along the 3900 block of Elser Street in the Nicetown-Tioga section of Philadelphia.

Police found DeVante Grey-Reid suffering from a gunshot wound to the head inside a home on the block.

Reid says she has not been contacted by the family of the young man suspected of firing the weapon.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspected shooter, identified as William Barrow, was arrested Thursday.
