Billion dollar suit against former Penn doc

PHILADELPHIA; January 16, 2012

Dr. Craig B. Thompson is accused of using discoveries he made at Penn to create his own biotech company, without notifying the research center and university what he was doing.

Thompson is now president and CEO of the prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

He is a pioneer in the metabolism of cancer cells, or how malignant cells use energy.

In May 2009, Thompson and his research program on pancreatic cancer was selected for one of the first grants from the Stand Up To Cancer telethon.

Thompson says the allegations are untrue.
