School bus and SUV collide in Lehigh Valley

NESQUEHONING, Pa. - January 24, 2012

It happened at 7:00 a.m. along SR54 in the village of Hauto in Nesquehoning, Pa.

Reports from the scene say the SUV was traveling east, struck black ice and hit a utility pole before slamming head-on into a Panther Valley school bus.

The bus, which was carrying no children at the time, then struck a garage, causing extensive damage to that structure.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital.

SR54 was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

The bus is owned and operated by Kistler Bus Contracting of West Penn Township.

Nesquehoning police are investigating.
