Taxi hits pedestrian, crashes into Philly sneaker store

ROXBOROUGH - February 9, 2012

At around 2:30 p.m., police and fire crews were called out to the intersection of Ridge and Leverington avenues.

Authorities say the cab struck a 64-year-old pedestrian before crashing into the "Sneakertown" store.

Medics rushed the 64-year-old male pedestrian to Temple University Hospital for care. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is stable.

The owner of "Sneakertown" and at least two others were in the store when the cab came crashing through, however, nobody inside was injured.

Jeanine Taylor was inside the store with her 5-year-old son.

"I just grabbed my son and was backing up. I was screaming. I was just scared for a moment, but I didn't see how he came into the building, I just seen him coming towards us," Taylor said.

The adult male taxi driver was transported to Temple University Hospital.

At around 4:25 p.m., the taxi was removed from the scene via a flatbed truck.

L and I has determined the building did not suffer structural damage.
