CHESTERFIELD, N.J. - February 16, 2012

The crash happened around 8:18 a.m. at the intersection of Bordentown Chesterfield Road (Route 528) and Old York Road.

A bus carrying students of Chesterfield Elementary School was travelling along Old York Road when it collided with a dump truck, which was coming down Route 528. The collision spun the bus around, slamming the back side of the vehicle into a traffic light pole.

Action News has confirmed that one child, the daughter of a New Jersey State Trooper, was killed in the crash. We are also told that this Trooper, who has triplets, may have at least one other child who was on that bus and is being treated at an area hospital.

More than a dozen students have been taken to area hospitals for treatment of various injuries. Three of the injured were air lifted and others were taken from the scene by ambulance.

A house near the corner of the accident scene was set up as a triage center. The less severely injured children, and the children who were not injured at all, were taken inside of the house for treatment. Some of those children were hospitalized as a precaution.

Chesterfield Elementary School Superintendent tells Action News that all parents have been notified.

The front-end of the dump truck sustained damage, though there is still no word on what led to the accident.

The intersection is completely closed off to traffic. State and local police are on the scene as the investigation continues.
