Police in Bucks County shoot knife-wielding man

LANGHORNE, Pa. (AP) -February 23, 2012

Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler says the shooting occurred after Middletown police responded to a 911 report of a burglary early Thursday morning.

Heckler says the caller, Michael Devine, was standing outside his home in Langhorne holding a knife when an officer arrived. Devine ignored the officer's order to drop the weapon.

Heckler says a second officer who arrived at the scene shot Devine after being threatened with the knife. Devine died later at a hospital.

Heckler says there was no indication of a burglary.

Devine's son, Bristol Borough councilman Tony Devine, said that his father recently had been depressed because of health problems.
