Mrs. Fixit: Marble Mildew Cleansers

March 18, 2012

What's a girl to do – adapt. I have some household items that will kill mildew without damaging your marble.

The key to keeping your marble looking great is using neutral cleansers not acidic. I have a couple different solutions.

First, try mixing together a 50/50 solution of rubbing alcohol and water.

Either spray the solution directly onto the mildew or dip an old toothbrush into the solution. Scrub it in, rinse it off and dry well.

The alcohol will act as a fungicide, killing the mildew and keeping the marble safe.

Another simple, neutral alternative is baking soda.

Mix a 50/50 solution of baking soda and hot water. Shake or stir to dissolve the baking soda then scrub it, rinse well and dry.

Both of these solutions can be kept in an airtight container to be used again.

Both solutions also work not only on marble but are a perfect choice for cleaning and polishing faucets and showerheads.

A couple of great all around neutral cleaners to kill mildew and keep your marble looking amazing.
