3 sought in $100,000 Society Hill burglary

SOCIETY HILL - May 14, 2012

Investigators released surveillance video on Monday of the April 30th crime at a home in the 500 block of Spruce Street.

According to police, it was around 8:10 a.m. when three unknown men parked a black SUV at the corner of 6th and Cypress.

Several hours later, police say the three exited the SUV and approached the home, forcing open a side window.

The three entered and pried a safe from the floor. They placed the safe in the SUV and fled south on 6th toward Pine at 12:57 p.m.

"It was broad daylight, around 12:30, 1:00 in the afternoon, they cross the street with the safe in their hands. Very, very brazen," Philadelphia Police Lt. Ray Evers said.

The safe contained cash and jewelry valued at $100,000, police said.

The April 30th heist took place here in the upscale 18th century red brick confines of the 500 block of Spruce. It's a busy place that time of day with pedestrians and drivers.yet no one seem to notice the three thieves, but discreet video cameras.

"They're all wearing gray hoodies. From the video, we know they're out for several hours casing the place, we believe, waiting for the owner to leave," Evers said.

Camears were able to capture the face of one of the suspects.

"The one person we believe is casing the area is on his cell phone outside, we have a decent picture of face and we believe we can get him identified from the video," Evers said.

The suspects are described by police as:

Suspect #1: Black male, 20 years-of-age, medium build, medium complexion, light facial hair, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans, black belt, sneakers
Suspect #2: Black male, 20 years-of-age, 5'8"-5'10", medium build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, dark sneakers
Suspect #3: Black male, 20 years-of-age, 6', wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark sweatpants with a white stripe on side, dark baseball cap (Male carried the safe)
