Severe storms leave line of damage across the area

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - July 7, 2012

In Allentown, 70 miles per hour winds toppled trees into streets and onto cars, while strong gusts ripped part of the roof off a supermarket.

No one was hurt, but tens of thousands are without power in the Lehigh Valley.

In Chester County, lightning struck a home in West Caln Township igniting fire in the detached garage.

Firefighters hosed down hotspots at the 100 block of Martin's Corner just after 7:00pm Saturday night.

Fortunately, they were able to keep the flames from spreading to the home.

Along with the damage, the storms left 3,000 PECO customers in the dark; that's down from 6,000 at the height of the bad weather.

In the harder hit Lehigh Valley, PP&L reports 14,000 customers without power.
