January 11, 2013

An investor group led by Cerberus Capital Management has bought 877 stores, which includes every Acme location.

The group will acquire the stores for $100 million in cash, and the new company will assume $3.2 billion in existing debt.

The deal also includes four other grocery chains not found in our area - Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Shaws and Star Market.

SuperValu will be keeping its Save-A-Lot stores and Shop n' Save brand.
