The Westwood Regional Board of Education on Thursday voted unanimously to accept Geoffrey Zoeller's resignation, effective April 25.
Zoeller generated criticism after he took the generator and used a district-owned truck for his 40-minute commute home to Boonton.
In November, a teachers union took a vote of no confidence in the 44-year-old Zoeller, who had been superintendent for six years.
The Record newspaper reports Zoeller had not been seen in his office since Nov. 16, and the school board last month appointed an interim leader.
