Eagles release Mike Patterson, Cullen Jenkins

PHILADELPHIA - February 25, 2013

The release of 29-year-old Mike Patterson was announced late Monday afternoon. The team's longest-tenured player, he played in 115 games for the Birds.

Patterson owns the franchise record for longest fumble return for a touchdown with a 98-yard return at San Francisco on September 24, 2006, the team said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, the Eagles announced the release of Cullen Jenkins.

Jenkins signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Eagles in 2011 and started every game the last two seasons. He was due to make $5.5 million this season, but rebuilding Philadelphia cut the 32-year-old.

After spending the first seven seasons of his NFL career with Green Bay, Jenkins left for Philadelphia. He had 5 1-2 sacks in 2011 and four in 2012.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman calls Jenkins "a very productive player in this league for a long time."
