Limerick Township Police say 40-year-old Merinda Thompson was hit near 441 North Lewis Road in Royersford around 2:45 p.m.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a preliminary investigation determined that the car was heading northbound on Lewis Road when it crossed over into the southbound lane and then partially off the road striking Thompson who was jogging northbound along the southbound shoulder of the road.

The car then struck a utility pole before coming to a stop.

The 18-year-old male driver was transported to Paoli Hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have obtained a sample of the driver's blood for testing and took possession of his cell phone.

The accident remains under investigation.

Further details are expected later today following an autopsy.

Montgomery County detectives are assisting with the investigation.
