Marcus Hook mayor vows to stay despite gun incident

MARCUS HOOK, Pa. (AP) -April 2, 2013

Monday night's meeting was the first public appearance for 38-year-old Marcus Hook Mayor James "Jay" Schiliro since he surrendered March 21 on charges including false imprisonment, recklessly endangering another person and other counts in connection with the Feb. 21 incident.

The Delaware County Daily Times (http://bit.ly/12b4W4P ) reports a petition supporting the mayor has 212 signatures, while one calling for him to resign was signed by 75 people.

The Republican says he won't run for re-election.

Authorities say after the man refused Schiliro's demands for a sex act that the mayor waved a gun, which fired, threatened suicide and, at first, didn't let the other man leave.
