Body found in burning vehicle in SW Philadelphia

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - April 6, 2013

Investigators say around 4:30 Saturday morning, officers got a call to the 5300 block of Glenmore Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, where the discovery was made.

The Action Cam was there as officers surrounded a burned out 2013 Toyota Venza and searched for clues in what appears to be a murder and arson.

Police are giving few details at this time and haven't released the victim's gender or how he or she was killed.

Witnesses told Action News a vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene.

Neighbors, who didn't want to identified, are concerned and asking why.

"They were obviously trying to cover up something. It was probably someone they know or something for them to do it like that," said one neighbor.

The intentionally set fire caused a lot of damage and left behind debris on a street that residents say is pretty quiet.

Residents say there are a number of families with children on Glenmore and people only really come to the end of this street near Grays Avenue to dump trash.

After the torched Toyota was removed from the scene, a local pastor wrote in chalk over the charred part of the street 'God Bless the family.'

"I pray for the family, whoever it was, and I hope they catch him," said the neighbor.

Meanwhile homicide detectives say the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Police are also trying to track down the owner of the Toyota as their investigation continues.
