Authorities tell Action News a contractor struck a 1-inch gas line before 8:00 a.m. Friday on Route 322 at Route 10.
The resulting gas leak shut down Route 322 in the area.
Motorists were being advised to seek alternate routes.
There was no immediate word how many gas customers have been affected, or when repairs to the ruptured line would be completed.
