Statements can be used in Skippack trail murder trial

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - March 31, 2014

The (Pottstown) Mercury reports that a Montgomery County judge ruled last week that the statements were made voluntarily and were properly obtained.

Authorities allege that Tristan Stahley argued with and then stabbed 17-year-old Julie Siller on the Skippack Trail on May 25 before hiding her body in the woods. Officials said the two teenagers had been dating "off and on" for six to nine months.

Defense attorney Timothy Barton had argued that Stahley's statements were improperly obtained, but state troopers testified that his mother was present when he waived his right to an attorney.
