PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. (WPVI) -- A man is facing murder charges after he allegedly killed his friend during an argument related to a video game, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office.
It happened around 3:27 a.m. Friday inside a home on Westhorpe Lane in Phoenixville.
Investigators say 21-year-old Holden Hoffsis, of Phoenixville, shot and killed Daniel Gray after playing several rounds of Fortnite.
According to court documents obtained by Action News, Hoffsis called 911 to say he "accidentally shot his friend in the chest."
The suspect reportedly stated that he loaded the weapon but believed he kept the first chamber of the gun empty.
Hoffsis allegedly told officers that he and Gray drank several hard cider beers and used cocaine during the evening.
After losing a round of Fortnite, Hoffsis told investigators that Gray "yelled at him and got in his face," court documents allege. Hoffsis then says he stood up and shot his friend in the chest before calling 911, authorities said.
Hoffsis reportedly regularly kept the gun near him for protection.
According to the criminal complaint, jars of marijuana and packaging materials were also found in the home, which authorities believe Hoffsis intended to distribute.
"This case is another sad example of how the mix of drugs and guns leads to violence and death," said Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.
Hoffsis is being charged with murder and other related offenses. He is being held at the Chester County Prison without bail.
