Amtrak service resumes after person struck by train in Bensalem; SEPTA Trenton Line still suspended

Amtrak, SEPTA temporarily halted between Philadelphia, Trenton due to investigation in Bensalem
SEPTA's Trenton line is suspended, as well as Amtrak service between Philadelphia and Trenton.

BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Bensalem on Wednesday.

Amtrak train 2162 was traveling from Washington D.C. to Boston when a person trespassing on the track was struck near the Cornwells Heights Station around 11:30 a.m., according to officials.

None of the 231 passengers or crew onboard were injured.

Amtrak service has since resumed, however, the SEPTA Trenton Line is still suspeneded until further notice.

SEPTA riders are advised to find alternate services.

The passengers on the Amtrak train involved were transferred to another train to continue traveling, officials said.

According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), trespassing along railroad rights-of-way is the leading cause of rail-related deaths in America, and railroad-highway grade crossing incidents are the second leading cause of rail-related deaths in America.
