Suspect arrested in attempted robbery, shooting of Temple University student

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a man who shot a Temple University student during a robbery attempt earlier this month is now in custody.

Temple University police spotted Derek Hancock on campus on Thursday. He was taken into custody without incident.

The shooting happened November 8th in the 1500 block of North 17th Street.

Authorities say Hancock was trying to rob the 23-year-old student but when the victim fought back, the suspect pulled out a gun.

The victim was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip.

Hancock faces attempted murder and robber charges.
