Boy, 7, applauded for heroic actions to save ailing mother

BRICK, N.J. (WPVI) -- Twenty-nine-year-old Christine Earl of Brick Township, New Jersey, is a Type 1 diabetic who went into shock last Sunday when her blood sugar levels took a dangerous dive.

That's when her 7-year-old son Aden called 911. When he couldn't get through, he immediately called family friends and then dialed 911 again. He says he was pretty scared at the time.

"Like I'm sad like that she's going to die, but she just needs something to make her feel better," said Aden Earl, 7-year-old lifesaver.

"He unlocked the door. He put the dog in the backyard before they even arrived, and he showed them where I was. He was very calm," said Christine Earl of Brick, New Jersey.

Aden's mom recovered quickly after getting a shot to raise her blood sugar level. Family friends are applauding the little guy's actions.

"It's amazing. He's 7 years old, but he's a good little boy, and it's amazing that he did what he did," said Sue Walters, family friend.

To honor the second-grader's lifesaving actions, Aden was invited to throw out the first pitch at Wednesday's Lakewood BlueClaws game. They're the Single-A affiliate of the Phillies.

"I'm so proud of him. When they announced him at the BlueClaws game as a hero and what he did, I just broke down in tears crying," said Christine Earl.

Aden learned how to dial 911 from his late godmother, who taught him how to call for help after a similar incident four years ago. That training paid off.

"I think he saved his mother's life by knowing to call 911. And when he didn't get through, he called us and he said, 'I need help,' " said Heather Walters, family friend.

"If he wasn't here, I don't think I would be standing here right now. Definitely he's my hero. He's my hero indeed," said Christine Earl.

When we asked Aden if he felt like he did a good job, he responded simply be saying, "yeah."

Aden Earl doesn't get what all the fuss is about. He's just glad his mom is OK.
