Saint Malachy catholic school expands

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A local catholic school is celebrating a new state-of-the-art learning space.

Saint Malachy opened its new building on Thompson Street in North Philadelphia Monday.

It has an outdoor playground and will be home to the mural that Pope Francis helped create during his visit last year.

Saint Malachy is one of 15 Independence Mission Schools providing a catholic education to students of all faiths in low income neighborhoods.

Mayor Jim Kenney was treated to a tour.
