Delaware State Police say a school bus driver has been cited for inattentive driving after a collision with another school bus in Newark, sending 55 students and five adults to the hospital.

The accident happened about 7 a.m. Tuesday on Route 72, near Route 4.

Police say 59-year-old Larry Gould of Bear was driving a bus that rear-ended the second bus, pushing it into a stopped car.

Both buses were on their way to Gauger-Cobbs Middle School. All 55 students were transported to Christiana Hospital for evaluation, but police say only three or four complained of minor injuries.

Police say the three people in the car have non-life threatening injuries, and the bus drivers were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
