The Delaware Fire Marshal's office is investigating a fire that destroyed a barn at a Middletown dairy farm Monday afternoon. Officials say the blaze began just after 1:30 p.m. At Emerson Farms on Jamison Corner Road.

A worker in the barn smelled smoke and managed to get the approximately 90 cows inside to safety before the barn burned to the ground. The other half of the farm's cows were not in the barn at the time.

Emerson Farm has been a working dairy farm since 1947.
