I-95 reopens after broken pavement delays

October 9, 2008 It was around 8 this morning when someone noticed what appeared to be a hole in the highway. However, PennDOT officials say it was not a hole but a broken concrete seal at the metal expansion joint of the deck.

Officials say there was no structural damage to the roadway at all.

PennDOT says they are in the process of replacing concrete seals at various points along the highway, but hadn't yet reached the one that caused today's problem.

A contractor was called out to make the repairs this morning with a quick setting concrete. PennDOT will then work to fix the seal with a more permanent solution at a later date.

During the incident police closed 2 lanes of the southbound highway between Girard Avenue and the Vine Street Expressway until the repairs could be made.
