You probably wouldn't expect to find a reptile in the river, would you?

But that's just what the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit found when they were called to Duck Island in the Schuylkill River Thursday night.

The four-foot-long gator was found at about 8 p.m.

Officers think it was probably somebody's pet, outgrew its welcome and then was left in the river.

Philadelphia Animal Control officials now have the gator.
