3 charged after Del. trooper assaulted

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - November 30, 2008 Police say troopers responding to a report of a bonfire in a field off Lisa Drive near U.S. Route 13 around 2 a.m. Saturday spotted a Geo Prizm taking off at a fast speed.

After officers got the car to stop, the driver, 20-year-old James August of New Castle, punched one trooper in the face and ripped another's uniform.

Police say 21-year-old passenger Lester Quiles of Wilmington, also put up a fight when troopers spoke to him and 19-year-old Ismael Ruiz of Wilmington was verbally abusive but did not fight.

All three were charged with a list of criminal offenses, including assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
