CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (AP) - April 20, 2009
Nineteen-year-old Christina Becker and her 17-year-old sister,
Jacqueline, were returning home when authorities say trooper Robert
Higbee ran a stop sign and hit their minivan in Sept. 2006.
The 36-year-old trooper told investigators he was chasing a
speeder. But a witness says the Cape May County road was deserted.
New Jersey paid $2 million to settle a civil suit stemming from
the case, but made no admission of wrongdoing.
Authorities estimate the trial could take four to five weeks.
