Boys, 11 and 12, connected to vandalism spree

SWEDESBORO, N.J. - March 22, 2010

Logan Township Police say the boys, who are not being identified because of their ages, are suspected in three acts of vandalism that began Friday night.

Police say they hit Grace Baptist Fellowship Church in Swedesboro twice, and also vandalized a limo service.

The boys are charged with burglary, trespassing and criminal mischief.

They have been released to the parents, pending court.

The estimated amount of damage is in the thousands of dollars, but an exact amount has not been determined yet.

The 12 year old is from Logan and the 11 year old is from Mantua, police say.

Church vandalized twice

The pastor of Grace Baptist Fellowship Church in Swedesboro told Action News he walked into the sanctuary Saturday afternoon and found that someone had sprayed it with fire extinguishers.

Crews were brought in and cleaned up the area for the Sunday morning services.

However, when Pastor Stephen Keith returned that afternoon, he found the vandals had targeted the children's area downstairs.

There were broken doors as well as paint slapped on walls, among other forms of damage.

Police say one of the suspects lives across the street from the church.

The other suspect was visiting his grandmother, who lives next door.

Officers say they caught up with the pair when they tried to light a projector on fire; one that they allegedly stole from the church.
