Witnesses told officials that they saw a man swimming around 7:30 p.m. in the Cooper River near North Park Drive and Donahue Avenue.
The man then went underwater and did not resurface.
Witnesses say the man looked to be in his 30s.
Dive teams began searching the river for any sign of the man.
Authorities tell Action News the body of the man was discovered around an hour after the search began.
