The tornado is classified as an EF-0 with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph.
Investigators say the twister left a path of destruction one mile long and 100 yards wide.
There were no injuries reported.
Strong winds and heavy rains blew through New London along Route 896 shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Several trees were blown down or ripped apart and some homes were damaged.
One woman said the family car, parked in the driveway before high winds came through, ended up in the back yard.
"I was in the kitchen when things started flying around," said Pat Coldiron. "I went to close the window and I saw lawn chairs flying through the air."
Even a road sign was uprooted and tossed about.
Most those Action News talked to describe the storm as sounding like a freight train rolling through.
