Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Vignola Jr. pleaded guilty in September to aggravated assault in the May 2008 attack on the then-18-year-old woman.
Common Pleas Court Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes refused to impose a 1- to 2-year sentence recommended by prosecutors and also rejected the defense's request for probation. She said she could not ignore Vignola's actions in not seeking help for the victim. She also ordered him to pay her $10,000 for plastic surgery and counseling.
Vignola read a statement in court and apologized to the victim, but the prosecutor said he did not think the defendant was remorseful.
Vignola is the son of former city councilman and controller Joseph Vignola.
