Philadelphia soldier killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense has announced today the death of a soldier from Philadelphia who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Private First Class John F. Kihm, 19, died April 19th in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. The Department of Defense did not disclose the circumstances.

Kihm joined the Army in March 2010.

He has received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Kihm is survived by his mother and father.
