Cops: Pa. man says beating was 'mercy killing' try

MACUNGIE, Pa. - September 2, 2011

The Morning Call of Allentown reports police arrested 66-year-old John Geisinger on Thursday, hours after he allegedly beat his wife, Louella, with a baseball bat then tried to drown her in a bathtub.

State police say Louella Geisinger was found badly injured and crying in her wheelchair at her home in Lower Macungie Township. Investigators say John Geisinger called his boss to say he had tried to commit a "mercy killing" of his wife.

The Morning Call report says John Geisinger is being held on $1 million bail. It was not clear if he had an attorney.

Louella Geisinger was hospitalized.
