Man charged with killing bicyclist in Kensington

KENSINGTON - November 22, 2011

Brett Truskin of Brewster Drive in Ivyland was arrested on Friday in the death of 49-year-old Gregory Loper.

Police say Loper was riding his bicycle in the bike lane on the 1900 block E. Lehigh Avenue when he was struck and killed by a 2011 Toyota RAV4 operated by Truskin.

Truskin allegedly struck several parked cars as well in the collision, but continued driving. He eventually struck another vehicle driven by a 52-year-old man who was taken to Temple University Hospital with stomach and back pain.

Police say Truskin was driving under the influence, and only hours earlier, he had been arrested for another DUI after a three car crash on I-95. A judge had just released him from jail on his own recognizance.

Truskin is charged with Homicide by Vehicle, Homicide by Vehicle while DUI, Accident Involving Death, Driving Under the Influence, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and related offenses.

Gregory Loper leaves behind a wife, 11 children and 11 grandchildren.
