Fatal shooting outside NJ auto parts store

WOODLYNNE, N.J. - November 29, 2011

The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. outside the Advance Auto Parts on the 2200 block of Mt. Ephraim Avenue.

UPDATE: Victims ID'd, suspect arrested in auto parts shooting

Witness Tony Lingo of Camden was sitting behind the wheel of his SUV, moments away from walking into the store, when a man shot at two other men killing one and injuring the second.

Bullets were flying and at least two hit the driver's side door of Lingo's SUV.

"I heard the first shot and then the bullet hit the car and then I got down, the bullet hit the car again, and then another shot rang out," Lingo said.

Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the Camden County's Prosecutor's Office says it was not a robbery, but they still are not sure what led to the shooting.

Police say the man who died was shot in the head.

The survivor ran to a nearby barbershop on Maple Avenue for help.

He was transported to Cooper Hospital.

Police held the scene hours after the shooting.

"This is a busy corridor. There were a lot of innocent people coming to and from here and the disregard for the citizens in this area is despicable," Laughlin said.

Lingo says he waited in his SUV for about 3 minutes before the shooting started. He says the only thing that saved him was the rain.

"God sent the rain down really heavy so I said let me sit here and wait for till the rain slows down, so that helped," Lingo said.

As police search for the killer, they're also trying to figure out how the men are connected.
