Police seek suspect in Pottstown murder

POTTSTOWN, Pa. - February 3, 2012

Police found the victim, 31-year-old Alicia Schmidt, dead at the bottom of her basement stairs.

Authorities are now seeking Carrero - the victim's boyfriend.

According to reports, Carrero called his ex-wife and allegedly said that he may have killed Schmidt by choking her and throwing her down a flight of stairs.

A woman, who told detectives she was a relative, was at the scene on Thursday afternoon admitted she was worried about Schmidt's two children.

Both children were later found unharmed in another room of the house.

Mystery surrounds Schmidt - even the local councilman, Jody Rhoades, could never contact her.

"I used to go door-to-door, try to get people to vote, and I never got any answer at that door," said Rhoades.

An autopsy on Schmidt was being performed by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office on Thursday afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pottstown Police at 610-970-6570 or Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.
