It happened at 12:15 p.m. on the off-ramp leading from I-95 South to Route 896 North.
Delaware State Police say a 32-year-old man lost control of his 2004 Ford Focus and hit the right guard rail.
A fire started in the engine compartment. Within minutes the whole car was engulfed in flames.
The driver managed to escape unharmed.
The ramp and the right lane of I-95 South near the ramp were closed for 45 minutes as crews worked to extinguish the flames and clear the wreckage.
