Penn State is taking more steps to improve child protective policies on campus.

The university announced that new hires and volunteers who work with kids will have to undergo background checks.

Penn state officials will also have the power to review current employees' records when it has reasonable grounds to do so.

The university has been tightening safety protocol in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal.
