It happened at 9:37 a.m. Tuesday on Torresdale Avenue at Bridge Street.
The officer was traveling northbound to assist another officer in a foot pursuit when his police cruiser collided with another vehicle.
Police say the civilian motorist ran a red light.
The officer was taken to Temple University Hospital. The civilian was taken to Aria Health Torresdale Division.
The injuries to both were said to be minor.
