Man drained pool water on freezing road, caused crashes

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) - January 10, 2014

Norwalk police charged 34-year-old resident Alfredo Bahena-Benitez with misdemeanor reckless endangerment Thursday. He works for a Darien company.

Police say they were called to Flax Hill Road on Thursday morning after a woman's car hit a guardrail because the road became icy after Bahena-Benitez emptied the pool.

An SUV spun out shortly afterward and was struck by a car. Another vehicle struck the SUV and then hit an oncoming city salt truck. No one was seriously hurt.

Bahena-Benitez is due in court Jan. 21. It's not clear whether he has a lawyer, and there is no phone listing for him.
