The 20-inch water main broke in the area of 57th and Wynnefield Avenue around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Water pressure was restored after an hour and a half, though one dormitory at St. Joseph's University lost service.
The water main was installed in 1908.
Crews were out salting the road once the leak was capped, to cut down on icing.
