Philadelphia police say an off-duty officer fired multiple times at an armed suspect during an attempted robbery in Brewerytown.

BREWERYTOWN (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say an off-duty officer fired multiple times at an armed suspect during an attempted robbery in Brewerytown.

Police tell Action News the officer and his girlfriend were in the 1400 block of North Myrtlewood Street around 1:45 a.m. Sunday when they were approached by a man armed with a rifle.

The man attempted to rob the off-duty officer and his girlfriend.

The officer discharged his weapon five times at the armed male who fled from the scene on foot.

The off-duty officer and his girlfriend were not injured in the incident.

Police recovered the rifle at the scene.

The suspect remains on the loose.
