Suspect charged in Broad St. road rage shooting
CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have made an arrest in connection with a road rage shooting on Broad Street from over the weekend.
31-year-old Shaffiat Ali has been charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.
Police say they found his red Mitsubishi Eclipse Tuesday afternoon in South Philadelphia.
Action News spoke with the victim, 28-year-old Nicole Spayne, Tuesday night.
"I was very terrified," Payne said
The victim says it was around 7:30 p.m. Saturday when she was driving down Lombard Street with her 4-month-old daughter and 20-year-old sister. She noticed she was being tailed by a red car captured by surveillance cameras for at least nine blocks.
Police say when the two vehicles reached Broad Street she turned right. He kept going, and as he crossed the intersection fired two shots through his open passenger side window.
One pellet from what has been determined to be a BB gun went through the back window, and the other hit the mirror on the passenger side.
Fortunately, they missed the occupants of the car, but could have hit anyone on the street.
Payne says her child is okay.
Property owners supplied investigators with video of the vehicles, which was enough for authorities to piece together the sequence of events.
The video shows the driver of the red car gesturing out the window to the car in front of him. The victim says he was blowing his horn and yelling at them.
On Tuesday afternoon, the car showed up on the 800 block of Fernon Street in South Philadelphia.
Residents of the block tell Action News they had never seen the car before and became suspicious when they noticed the license tag was missing. So, they called the police.
