RIDLEY TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- A wild police chase through Delaware County ended in gunfire after the suspect allegedly tried to run down officers with his vehicle.
Chester police officials say this whole thing started when a local officer happened upon an alleged drug deal going down near Sun Village Park.
Investigator say that officer drove up to the alleged dealer who was inside a Ford Mustang.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Brian Bowe, quickly became belligerent and the officer tried to subdue him using a Taser gun.
Despite being hit with the Taser, Bowe quickly drove off, and a dramatic chase ensued.
The chase went through a closed gate at the state prison in Chester, and then onto Industrial Highway where other local officers had already positioned their squad cars as barricades.
But Chester Police Commissioner Joseph Bail says that did not slow down the suspect.
Commissioner Bail tells us, "He was blocked off by two of the Chester Police cars, at which time he attempted to run down the officer, and the officer fired a shot."
That shot hit Bowe near his neck.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop a few hundred feet away and police moved in to make the arrest.
Chester Mayor John Linder says, all things considered, this situation could've ended much worse.
"For the thing to start in one area, go across the city or around the city, and then outside the city, we're very fortunate no one else got injured or hurt," Linder said.
Police say they recovered drugs and drug paraphernalia from Bowe's vehicle.
Bowe is being treated at Crozer Chester Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
No police officers or bystanders were injured in the incident.
